Request a Training
This is the basic information we'd like from anyone who would like us to conduct a training for their group or community.
Please note that we prefer to schedule first aid trainings several months out
We need first names and phone numbers & e-mail for at least two people involved in setting up trainings.
Who are the people in your town asking for training? What sort of organizing work are these people doing?
Are you asking to be trained in preparation for a specific action or out of a general desire to be prepared?
Tell us at least three possible dates that will work for your community.
Where will the training be (or likely be, we realize you may need to confirm dates to reserve space)? Is this space accessible to everyone? How big are the room/rooms available for training?
It costs a surprising amount of money to develop and support our training program. We have a $0-$40 sliding scale. Is this a problem?
How many people do you expect at the training? How are you letting people know about it? It takes a huge amount of time to organize trainings and we have to take time off from work. While we are always happy to train people, our organization can’t support teaching less than 15 people. We need that many to build the kind of realistic scenario atmosphere which is essential to our instruction.
Should we expect children of students to be present during training? If this training is in the Northwest, it may well be that we will require child care during the training. What sort of child care arrangements have you made for the training?
Do you expect that everyone at the training will speak and understand English?
How much do you expect travel expenses to be for trainers? Do you have any concerns about being able to raise these prior to the training? (Please let us know as soon as possible if you anticipate needing help to raise money to cover basic travel expenses. If your circumstances are really extraordinary, we'll try to help you out but our ability do this is VERY limited.)
Can you provide housing for trainers? Where?
We appreciate your interest in a Black Cross training, but considering the above logistical challenges, we have to politely ask whether there are any local folks who can train there? (We're happy to provide outlines and advice and help potential local trainers assess their readiness to present basic street first aid training. We're also happy to come there and train, but our priority is to build upon the strengths of local communities. If you can think of creative ways we can help facilitate that in your town, please let us know.)
Will some people planning to attend the training have previous action first aid training or health care background?
Are there trained people there who can assist us with training and/or "apprentice" so that they can eventually train locally?
Are there people there who are involved in or interested in starting a radical health collective/ medic affinity group locally?
Extra credit question:
We'll show up even if you live in a boring place, but just to give us something to look forward to, tell us the three most exciting things about your town.
